"The Westfield Princess"
Reduction lino print on paper
27 X 32.5cm
Before the houses near Morley Drive in Ely were built an excavation of the site uncovered a burial site. One of the graves contained the body of a young female and some very precious relics. The treasures are no longer in the grave (treasure seekers) however the grave was marked with a hawthorn tree and left undeveloped.
I was inspired to create a piece celebrating a young female taken in her prime. I depicted the hawthorn tree in full may blossom and used fresh greens, like the first green of spring symbolising youth and fertility.
